IRCTC launches ticket booking app for Android

NEW DELHI: IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) has released IRCTC Connect, the official railway ticket booking app for Android.

The launch of the Android app comes more than an year after IRCTC released the first railway ticket booking apps for Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. It had also launched a BlackBerry 10 app in August 2014.

The IRCTC Connect app offers users a one-step login feature, the ability to search and book train tickets, view and cancel tickets and upcoming journey alerts.

The app, which features ads, allows new users to directly register and also retains passenger details from recent bookings.

The app lets users book railway tickets throughout the day barring the period from 8am to 12noon, the Tatkal booking time window, when access to the service is blocked for travel agents and for mobile devices to reduce server load, and from 11:30pm to 12:30am when the service is closed for maintenance.

The app can be downloaded through the Google Play Store. It features a hamburger navigation menu that offers options to book, track and cancel ticket bookings. The New Booking screen allows users to select the 'From' and 'To' stations, journey date and quota, following which the app lists all trains. Tapping on a train name opens a compartment class sub-menu, and features fare and availability information. Users can then book tickets by entering passenger information and making the payment.
